MEGA Brands America, Inc., formerly known as Rose Art Industries, LLC is an American arts & stationery company based in Irvine, California. It is owned by parent company MEGA Brands Inc. a Montreal based company. It has additional operations in Fife, Washington, Lafayette, Indiana and Lewisburg, Tennessee. 2013 marks the 90th anniversary of RoseArt. The company was established when Isidor Rosen founded the Rosebud Art Company inNew York City in 1923. During the '70s, the company renamed itself RoseArt. Rose Art has been a subsidiary of Mega Brands since 2005. On January 24th, 2006, Mega Bloks Inc. agreed to acquire The Board Dudes, Inc., a privately held company based in Corona, California. The Board Dudes designs and distributes a range of products for the school, home and office supply markets. Primary product categories include dry erase boards, cork boards, school and locker products, writing instruments, novelty items and storage products sold under the Board Dudes, Locker Dudes, Write Dudes and related brands. These goods are sold in mass and specialty channels throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Board Dudes founders and principals, Ben Hoch and Michael Cerillo, both maintain senior managerial roles within the arts and stationery division of MEGA Brands.
In September 2006, the former owners of Rose Art Industries filed suit against Mega Brands, alleging insider trading by company executives in 2005 and 2006. MEGA Brands counter sued and in November 2009 the parties settled. The Rosens agreed to pay back $17.2 million and forgo claims of an additional $54.8 million. Crazy Redd's, also known as the Black Market, is a store run by Redd, a fox who maintains a shifty nature. The shop contains items that can also be bought fromTom Nook in his store, but for a higher price. Redd as well has items sold exclusively by Redd which cannot be found anywhere else. The store restocks once every week.
The shop also sells paintings which can be forgeries - these can be identified by Blathers, or when you try to sell one to Tom Nook. If it is identified as a fake the name of the painting will change to Forged Painting. The shop is the only place (except for two paintings at Nook's) that sells paintings, but due to their unpredictable nature and high cost, there is a risk.
In Animal Crossing, Crazy Redd's tent appears at random times during the year. To enter, the player will receive a letter signed by Redd in advance, telling the player when the shop will appear. To find the exact place where the shop is, ask Copper at the Police Station. Copper will tell you the square on the map where Crazy Redd's tent is located. Unlike in later games, Redd does not sell Forged Paintings.
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, the shop appears once a week outside Town Hall. The player will be sent a letter containing a password (see Redd's Passwords) or, if the shop has not been visited, given a password by a villager in the town. You must also pay a fee of 3,000 Bells to buy something from his shop for the first time. When signing up for insurance with Lyle, the player will be asked about Redd and given days of the week as answers. The day chosen will be the day the shop appears. Lyle also sells insurance for forged paintings, which suggests these paintings are then returned to Crazy Redd's to be sold once again. Exclusive items of furniture only found at Crazy Redd's are worth 151 points each, while paintings (that are not forgeries) are worth 412 points by the Happy Room Academy.
